Shalakya Tantra is one of the eight major clinical branches of Ayurveda. It deals with the diagnosis and management of diseases occurring above the clavicle—Urdhvajatrugata Vikaras—(Eye,Ear,Nose,throat and oral cavity) using both medicinal and procedural approaches described in classical Ayurvedic texts. This department holds a unique place in Ayurveda as it combines precise anatomical knowledge, fine clinical skills, and specialized instruments for accurate diagnosis and management.

The Department of Shalakya Tantra integrates classical Ayurvedic wisdom with practical clinical skills, focusing on management of crucial pathologies. It plays a crucial role in improving quality of life through early diagnosis, preventive strategies, and specialized therapeutic procedures, making it an essential and dynamic branch of Ayurveda.

We have a good OP facility with attached space for examination and various therapeutical procedures. Seperate dental OPD is working under shalakyatantra department with a modern dentist and dental hygienist. From the academic year 2025-26 onwards we have separate OPD for Netraroga and karna nasa mukharoga (KNM), as the PG course under Shalakyatantra is divided into Shalakya – Netraroga and Shalakya – Karna nasa mukharoga (KNM). 25 beds are allotted to the department in the general ward. Pay ward, paying ward and specialty rooms are also available.  Patients from different parts of Kerala and outside Kerala are treated here. Each patient is systemically examined and scientifically evaluated for accurate diagnosis along with classical parameters too.
